TESDA MisOr, CDOTVI produced 1st AI grads

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)--Gearing up for the needs of the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions, the Technical Education and Skill Development Authority Misamis Oriental Provincial Office (TESDA-MisOr) has pushed forward the skills education for artificial intelligence (AI) courses and produced the first batch of trained youth in the field of practical AI courses. TESDA-MisOr, through the Cagayan de Oro City Technical Vocational Institute in partnership with Spark, produced the first batch of graduates for the Practical Artificial Intelligence Course, June 23, which consisted of 16 out-of-school youth (OSY) learners. The seven-month course was designed to equip learners with operational skills in practical artificial intelligence courses, particularly in Fundamentals of AI in Practice Dataset Preparation and Annotation, Machine Learning Model Training, Machine Learning Model Deployment, Accuracy Reporting and Evaluation, and Data Storytelling and Visualization. "We cannot deny that we are now already in the fourth and fifth industry revolution, and we have to capacitate our youth to prepare for it. This is why TESDA is now partnering with industry and the local government for this one," TESDA-10 Assistant Regional Director/TESDA MisOr Provincial Director Marigold Cherie Garrido shared. Garrido highlighted that producing a capacitated and empowered youth is the first step in responding to the changes of time and needs of the government as it aims to move forward and have smart cities and municipalities. "The OSY is trained in the artificial intelligence course, and they are now earning about six digits. Something that we want to promote and show the world that we have these jewels for the next generation," she added. Moreover, according to the industry partner Sparks' CEO, Thor Turrecha, seven months ago, when they started the program, doubts were coming from some people that they could not pull off the course implementation since it had never been done before. But due to their sheer determination to help out the out-of-school youth by educating them in the AI course so that they and their families have a better life, the impossible became possible, and those who had doubts became believers. Turrecha explained that people should not fear AI since it will not replace humans in terms of work but rather can create a superhuman since it will help a person or organization fulfill tasks at a faster capacity with less human effort. Even with the AI’s capacity, the said program still needs human intervention to input data and aid the AI in gaining knowledge, which is why it is important to produce individuals with skills in AI. As TESDA continues to respond to the changing times, it aims to produce more youth equipped and capable of facing the challenges that the new industrial revolution brings. (JAKA/PIA-10)
