Rufus: Uphold Our Sovereignity Over WPS

By Mona Lagbas

Cagayan de Oro City, August 16, 2024_" We are not seeking a fight with China over the West Philippine Sea, but we must uphold our rights over the area," thus declared Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez in a press conference held Friday at a local hotel.

"The era of appeasement is definitely over, and I agree with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that we should never surrender our claim over the disputed West Philippine Sea," added Congresman Rodriguez.

"It is not pure imagination that we have rights over the WPS as decided upon by international maritime laws, so must not yield to adverse claims by any other nation, especially China, which is agressively pursuing their alleged ownership of that particular body of water," asserted Rodriguez.

"We are continually being harrased by China and it is notable that President Bongbong, in his 2nd SONA, is making a strong stand against alleged atrocities being done by China," disclosed CDO's 2nd District legislator.

Congressman Rodriguez was a guest speaker during a press forum initiated by the Philippine Coast Guard, wherein a fundraising fun run for the WPS on September 8 this year was announced. Representing the PCG was Commodore Jay Tristan Tarriela, who also lengthily discussed the issues and views of the national government over the West Philippine Sea controversy.
