Cagayan de Oro City, July11,2024_"Electric jeepneys are attracting public transport Cooperatives," thus said Abosamen H. Matuan, Regional Director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-10
RD Matuan, in an exclusive interview with the Mindanao Reporter Thursday said that when Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson attended a transport confab recently, Singson introduced the e-jeepney, an electric-powered modernized PUJ.
Matuan added that although it is inappropriate that he endorses the e-jeepney, he however noted that the Singson's e-jeepney is emvironment-friendly and sports a traditional look, a feature that Pinoy jeepneys are iconically famous for.He added that soon there will be charging stations at strategic areas.
On the other hand, Director Matuan also disclosed that there is no extension of the consolidation period for traditional jeepneys and that traditional operators should join Cooperatives for them to avail of loans from government banks for modernised units.
"Under the modernisation program, commuters are assured of safety, comfort, clean emissions and relatively affordable fares. Local government units have and still are determining and opening more routes in their localities for the convenience of their commuting citizens.
