DTI steps up investment promotion in MisOcc

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA)—The Department of Trade and Industry in Misamis Occidental, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, Ozamiz City, and the Board of Investments-Cagayan de Oro Extension Office, is stepping up its efforts in promoting investments in the province to take full advantage of the continuing high investor confidence locally. DTI gathered local economic development and investment promotion officers, planning officers, and employees from different local government units in the province for a two-day capacity-building training on Investment Promotion held at Royal Garden, Ozamiz City. OIC Provincial Director Luz Galda of the Department of Trade and Industry-Misamis Occidental said that Investment Promotion is very important as it actively seeks to bring investment opportunities to the attention of potential investors. It also provides capital, jobs, skills, technology, and exports and increases productivity, innovation, and wages in a city or municipality. Generating investments will bring many direct and indirect economic development benefits to an area, and investment can be targeted at both domestic and foreign companies, she added. "The competition for foreign direct investment (FDI) is stiff, so we must put in a capacity to attract and retain investors and to benefit from their investments. The crafting of city’s or municipality’s comprehensive investment destination portfolio is a critical component in attracting investors," Galda said. Galda expressed her gratitude to the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, headed by Governor Henry S. Oaminal, and the City Government of Ozamiz, led by Mayor Henry "Indy" Oaminal Jr., for their support in the two-day capability building training on Investment Promotion. "With our unwavering commitment as public servants, both DTI and the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental have continued in carrying out our functions to achieve the 5M mantra: Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon," Galda said. Capacitating the investment team is one of the investments in the province. Meanwhile, Jaime B. Baldomero, one of the participants in the training from Jimenez, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator/Local Economic Investment Promotion Officer, thanked the government for the program that will improve his learning capacity for further development in his town. "Dako kaayo ni syag katabang para dugang kalamboan sa among lungsod og ilabina satibuok probinsya tungod kay capacity building siya, nadungagan ang among kahibalo kung unsaon nato pagtabang sa pagpatigayon nga taga-laing lugar sa tibuok kalibutan ug sa atong mga lokal nga katawhan nga gusto magpatigayon sa atoang probinsya," he said. (It helped improve our knowledge through this capacity building training. Also, how can we help businesses from other places around the world and our local people who want to do business in our province) The Board of Investments assisted in formulating investment attraction strategies, local investment incentive code implementation, and the preparation of the municipal profile. BOI also conducts workshops and role plays to help LGUs recreate actual scenarios when prospective investors visit Misamis Occidental. (SMRN/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
