BARMM joins PSA data enclave centers launching

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao participated in the simultaneous launching of the Data Enclave Center across 14 regions in the country. Spearheaded by the PSA Central Office and hosted by the PSA MIMAROPA, the simultaneous launch was held virtually via Zoom Teleconferencing, July 14. At the PSA-BARMM Regional Office, the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the data enclave was led by PSA-BARMM OIC-Regional Director Engr. Akan G. Tula and Statistical Operations and Coordination Division Chief Edward Donald F. Eloja. It was attended by various stakeholders from the government, academe, media, and members of the Regional Statistics Committee in the Bangsamoro region. The establishment of the data enclave is an undertaking of the PSA that aims to enable a positive environment to access open and free data and to centralize its data dissemination channels. Deputy National Statistician Minerva Eloisa Esquivias said the data enclave centers will enable researchers and stakeholders across the regions to access firm-level data from establishment-based surveys and censuses that would be useful in statistical research and data management. Data sets available in the enclaves are the Annual Survey of Establishments, the Census of Philippine Business and Industry, the Survey on Information and Communication Technology, and the Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment, among others. "This initiative promotes an environment that encourages research, collaboration, and innovation," Esquivias added. National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, Claire Dennis Mapa, affirmed this, citing the establishment of the data enclave center and extending it to the regions as manifestations of PSA's steadfast initiative to provide access to data to researchers and its stakeholders for statistical purposes. He said such an initiative also empowers PSA regional offices through information technology-driven solutions, citing that the data enclaves respond to the demand for data, especially in the context of widespread digitalization and emerging technologies. Following the simultaneous launch of the data enclaves in 14 regions, PSA now has a total of 18 data enclave centers across the country. (APB/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
