CAMIGUIN, Philippines – In a significant step toward community development, the Evacuation Center and 78 units of solar-powered street lights were officially inaugurated by Cong. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo and Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo at the Subproject Turnover Ceremony in Panghiawan, Catarman, Camiguin. This key infrastructure project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the local government units (LGU) of Panghiawan and Catarman, the Barangay Development Council - Technical Working Group, and the KALAHI-CIDSS KKB Community-Driven Development Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The event marks a milestone in the community’s progress, enhancing safety, resilience, and access to sustainable energy for local residents. The new evacuation center will serve as a safe refuge during emergencies, while the solar street lights will improve visibility and security in the area, particularly in the evenings.
This project exemplifies the power of community-driven development, where the combined efforts of the local government, the community, and national programs ensure lasting progress.
