CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City - The New People's Army (NPA) operating in Surigao del Sur continues to lose footholds in its former stronghold areas as troops of the 75th Infantry Battalion captured three high-powered firearms in recent arms caches discovery in the said province.

Acting on reliable information from a former NPA squad leader, the 75IB led by Lieutenant Colonel Earl C. Pardillo, launched an operation that led to the discovery of two arms caches in the vicinity of Repeater, Sitio Tubod, Brgy. Bolhoon, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur on July 7 and 8, respectively.

Lt. Col. Pardillo said the successful discovery of the said firearms is a testament to their unit's sustained efforts in weakening the armed capability of the NPA. He added that this is also a strong indicator of the growing support of the former rebels who are now more determined to help the government put an end to the local communist armed conflict in the province.

It can be recalled that in the past weeks, similar operations across the Caraga region have resulted in the unearthing of additional firearms in other provinces, highlighting the sustained pressure being exerted on NPA remnants throughout the region.

In his message, Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., Commander of 4ID, lauded the 75IB for their unwavering commitment and continued operational excellence under a new leadership. He also attributed the successful operation to the sincerity of former rebels who continue to support the government’s peace efforts through voluntarily disclosing the locations of arms caches which is a clear demonstration of their commitment to lasting peace and genuine reintegration into society
