Governor Juliette Uy Targets Illegal Mining, Quarrying In Two Mis. Or. Towns

July 1, 2025, Cagayan de Oro City_In her inaugural speech Tuesday morning at the Provincial Capitol, Governor Juliette Uy called the attention of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and mayors, regarding the proliferation of illegal gold mining and quarrying activities in the towns of Opol and Manticao.
Governor Uy said that only a few have benefitted from mining gold and quarrying Illegally and she proposed that the MGB, the Local Government Units concerned and her office meet and find a solution to this environmental and illegal issue.

Uy added that if gold mining and quarrying in these areas will be legalized, the LGUs concerned and the province will then get their shares of taxes and or revenues from this legalization. Hence, the lady Governor stressed, these shares can help build more hospitals throughout the province.
