Cagayan de Oro City Hall officials honored Kagay-anon veterans of World War II in Saturday’s (May 17) observance of the city’s 80th Liberation Day at the City Museum.

The event officially dubbed the 'General Offensive’ to mark a four-day military operation led by the 10th Military District from May 9 to 12, 1945 that aided in the
city's liberation from Japanese occupation during World War II.

Speaking in behalf of Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy, City Administrator Roy Hilario Raagas called on the public to honor the sacrifices made by the Kagay-anon veterans of World War II to fight for the city's freedom ‘against the imperial Japanese Army.'

The celebration concluded with the launching and ceremonial ribbon-cutting of the 'CDO Liberated Exhibit,' headed by Exhibit Curator and Historical Commission (HISCOM) Chairperson, Nicolas Aca Jr., in partnership with the City Tourism Office. (MDS/CIO/PHOTOS BY KIM ZALDIVAR/CIO)
