In response to Mayor Klarex Uy’s call for a ‘city-wide garbage collection drive,’ the officials of Brgy Bonbon, led by Punong Barangay Lelit B. Molina, immediately acted this morning. This action followed a meeting called by Mayor Klarex with barangay captains last Wednesday to address the city’s waste management problems through a unified effort involving barangays, the city, and the third-party garbage collector, Tencil.
During the meeting, the barangay captains, especially those with their own garbage trucks, voiced their support for helping the city achieve cleanliness in their areas.
According to Section 17 of Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, it mandates all barangays to take primary responsibility in waste segregation and collection, as well as the establishment of Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) in their areas.
