June 5, 2025, Cagayan de Oro City_Due to the assumption of incumbent Association of Barangay Councils President Yan Lam "Alam" Lim as city councilor on June 30 this year, there have been calls for the resignation of his successor, Gusa Punong Barangay Marlo Tabac, as Executive Vice President of the said federation.

In an ambush interview with Barangay Baikingon chief Jao Gumapac, he said that 64 village chiefs out of the city's 80 barangays have signed a petition calling for the resignation of Kapitan Tabac and this manifestation was presented during an assembly of village leaders Thursday. Gumapac added that they, the 64 signatories, cited loss of confidence as their main ground for Tabac's resignation and thereby declared the office of the ABC Vice President's position as vacant.

However, Gumapac declined to name names behind the move and details of their call but said that the signatories' petition will be forwarded to the national Liga Ng Mga Barangay for proper disposition.

In response, Gusa Punong Barangay Marlo Tabac is adamant that he has not violated any provision of Barangay regulations as contained in the Local Government Code. Tabac insists that the petition filed is illegal and violated sections 3 and 4 of the Liga constitution and is therefore baseless.

Barangay elections are due this December and speculations abound on what political affiliation will dominate the grassroots level.
