CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City - The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division has dealt another significant blow to the New People's Army (NPA) after one NPA member died while eight (8) high-powered firearms were seized in series of arms cache discovery and encounter in the provinces of Surigao del Sur and Bukidnon.
On April 26, troops of the 75th Infantry Battalion under the 401st Infantry Brigade, discovered an arms cache in the vicinity of Tinindakan, Sitio Panukmuan, Brgy. Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur, following an information provided by a former rebel. A total of four (4) AK47 rifles with steel magazines and live ammunitions were recovered in the said operation.

Meanwhile, on April 28, troops of the 3rd Special Forces Battalion, also under the operational control of 401st Brigade, also discovered an arms cache in the vicinity of Copper, Purok 5, Brgy. San Isidro, Lianga, Surigao del Sur where they recovered two (2) AK47 rifles and one (1) M653 rifle. The Arms Cache Retrieval Operation was launched after the revelation of three (3) former NPA members who surrendered to the unit.

Brigadier General Antonio B. Dulnuan Jr., Commander of 401st Infantry Brigade, said the invaluable revelations provided by FRs was a major part this huge success.
"The FRs' courage in coming forward and revealing hidden caches has not only weakened the NPA's firepower but also played a crucial role in enhancing our efforts to secure peace and development in the region. This is a clear demonstration of how they can contribute to our campaign in bringing brighter future for their communities," he stated.
In addition, troops of the 28th Infantry Battalion figured in an encounter with NPA members at Sitio Bayawa, Brgy. San Luis, Malitbog, Bukidnon on April 27 which resulted in the death of one member identified as Joel Balos Dalunhay, a resident of Sitio Linabu, San Luis, and the capture of one M16 rifle, one rifle grenade, medical supplies, journal notebooks, commercial radio and personal belongings.

In his statement, Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., Commander of 4ID, said this development is a clear indication of the NPA’s dwindling number of manpower and resources, and their inability to conduct atrocities against communities and government forces.
"These successes are part of our larger strategy to dismantle the remnants of NPA, disrupt their capabilities and restore peace especially to vulnerable communities. These firearms were essential to their ability to carry out atrocities and maintain control over their territories. With each arms cache discovery and successful engagement, the group continues to weaken, paving the way for further peace-building efforts and security enhancements," he added.
The 4ID Commander also commended the troops for their exceptional hardwork, noting that these achievements have dealt a decisive blow to the NPA. He highlighted that their success reflects not only their operational skill but also their deep commitment to achieving lasting peace in the Northern Mindanao and Surigao.
