August 11, 2025, Barangay Butong, Quezon, Bukidnon_In a formal activity led by the 89th Infantry (Makatao) Battalion under the 1003rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, 189 rebels surrendered with 72 firearms, explosives and war materials here. Thia latest yielding is a major blow to the operational capability of the North Central Mindanao Regional Command of the NPA.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Maj. Gen. Allan Hambala, 10th Infantry Division Commander, and members of the law enforcement sector welcomed the surrenderees.

For his part, Senator Zubiri pledged continuous assistance to the former rebels thru a partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, wherein each former rebel received 5 thousand pesos in cash, ten kilos of rice and food packs during the ceremony.

A Mobile Community Support Sustainment Program (MCSSP) of the 10th Infantry Division's line units was highlighted as playing a crucial role in convincing the former rebels to surrender.

"Your struggle ended not merely by laying down your arms, but by realizing that it was the wrong path, as the government has already addressed the reasons you took the mountains,” Hambala said.

The municipality of Quezon is increasingly getting rid of rebels and will later join eight other towns in Bukidnon's third district which have been declared as insurgency-free.
