Normin welcomes Cebu Pac's Clark-CDO maiden flight

LAGUINDINGAN, Misamis Oriental (PIA)--More tourists are expected to come and visit Northern Mindanao as the Department of Tourism (DOT)-10 welcomes Cebu Pacific Air’s inaugural flight from Clark Airport to Laguindingan Airport, May 6.

Carrying a total of 142 passengers, Cebu Pacific Flight 5J141 marks the very first successful voyage of the new flight route. The staff of DOT-10, including its Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan, warmly welcomed the passengers, who also included DOT Undersecretary for Tourism Development Planning Myra Paz Abubakar.

"We did extend our courtesies to Cebu Pacific and their passengers. We prepared our cultural performance so that they would get a glimpse of the beautiful culture of Northern Mindanao," DOT-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan said.

With the success of the maiden flight, the tourism department is now eyeing more connectivity and flights coming from Pampanga to the rest of Northern Mindanao. The DOT-10 is also strengthening its ties with its counterpart in Region 3 to further boost the tourism industry of the region through a travel exchange program.

"We expect more visitors from Luzon to come to Mindanao, especially ngayon na meron na tayong (now that we have) a connecting flight from Clark Airport to Laguindingan Airport. It only means na open na talaga open na ang Mindanao (that Mindanao is really open) to receive tourists from all over, especially Luzon," says DOT Undersecretary Myra Paz Abubakar.

With Cebu Pacific's new flight route, the DOT sees more connectivity from Clark Airport across various parts of Mindanao. They are also positive that it is just the start of a bigger and wider partnership between Luzon and Mindanao.

The DOT-10 urges travelers and tourists, not just from the North Luzon areas, to come and visit Northern Mindanao and experience the limitless adventure that the region has to offer.
