Following his proclamation as the winner in the mayoral race for Marawi, Mayor Majul Gandamra said he would prioritize the return of his constituents to the ground zero.
"Ang una nating prayoridad ay ang makabalik ang ating mga kababayan sa loob ng ground zero although some of the sectors ay nakabalik na. But ang aking hangarin ay within my term or in less than one year, lahat ng ating mga kababayan ay makabalik sa ground zero," he said.
[Our first priority is for our people's return inside the ground zero although some of the sectors have already returned. But my wish is that within my term or in less than one year, all our people will be able to return to ground zero.]
Gandamra admitted that his fresh mandate is more challenging because some displaced families still have not returned to their homes and that the rehabilitation is not yet finished. But he is optimistic the government's recovery efforts for the war-torn city would be completed soon.
"With the support of the national government, ako ay positibo na matatapos natin ang ating [I am positive that we will complete the] rehabilitation," he further said.
Meanwhile, Gandamra thanked his family and supporters for giving him another opportunity to serve the people of Marawi. He said he would make sure not to waste their trust and confidence by working harder for the people.
Gandamra was proclaimed the mayoral winner Wednesday night, May 11, by the City Board of Canvassers chaired by City Election Officer Lawyer Norpaisa Paglala-Manduyog.
